A short rant...

I just though I would share this conversation with everyone:

Me: Hey Professor Johnson, I wanted to write my term paper on the way that mourning is portrayed in Byzantine art, is that ok?

Professor Johnson: Much too broad, narrow it down to just one gesture of mourning

Me: Ok, I will write about veiled faces as a sign of mourning

Professor Johnson: That will work.

One month goes by.....

Me: Hey Professor Johnson, there is hardly any relevant research out there on veiled faces in the Byzantine era, any suggestions?

Professor Johnson: Well, the first thing you need to do is broaden you topic to all the gestures of mourning is Byzantine painting

Me: Ok

Me in my head: SERIOUSLY?? As in, broaden my topic back to the original one that you made me narrow down? Thank you for that sir.

Though I was quite frustrated by this conversation, hey, at least it will make the rest of my research easier to find!

Fantastic Fall!

Fall is most definitely my favorite season and October would have to be one of my very favorite months. We have been so busy but having a great time. Pete's dad Paul's birthday is two days after mine. To celebrate his birthday we all went bowling! Addison really loved bowling..and posing :)

Matt helping Addison with her ball

Tylin really went for it when throwing the bowling ball, she was really good!! She even beat Andrea and I!

Action shot!

We went up into the Canyon with Cindy and Scott Hampshire and roasted bratwurst and had s'mores. I love this picture because it looks like Scott has no head haha

Haha ok, no one worry I just had to go to the hospital because midterms gave me an anxiety attack. Anyone who has ever lived with me knows this is not a rare thing, I tend to freak out a little :) This was just an intense one. Anyway, I wanted to tell my funny "war story". So here goes, you see the IV in my arm? Well just a couple of minutes before when the nurse put it in my arm my vein decided to be stubborn and spew blood all down my arm, all over the floor, and all over the nurses pants. It took multiple paper towels to clean it up! But yes, as you can see I survived :) Now just in case my Mama is reading this and currently has her head between her knees I will move on :)

This football game was super cold and rainy, or so I am told, I myself was studying for the above mentioned midterms. We won though!

For Halloween this year Pete and I dressed up as Angela Martin and Andy "nard-dog" Bernard from "The Office". This is us at our ward Halloween party, we won best couple in the costume contest! I have on my uptight Angela face :)

One of my new favorite things in the whole world is Zumba! It is so much fun! I have finally found a form of exercise that I get really pumped about. The class before Halloween my teacher asked us to dress up (in a way that we could still work out) and we would all dance to Halloween songs. I even learned the Thriller Dance! I chose to dress up as a cat, I wore my exercise leggings, a pink and black tu-tu, and cat ears :)

On Friday night Pete and I went on the Heber Creeper Haunted Train, it was really cool! They had all of the cars decorated, scary stories/legends to tell, and ghosts would show up outside the train and they eventually started running down the aisles!

These are our best scared faces

Yesterday we carved pumpkins! Mmmmmm...

Gross! Pumpkin guts!

This is Jack-O and Jackie Lantern :)

They looked great!!

I really love FALL!!!

The Joy of Birthdays and Football!

We have had such a busy and fun filled three weeks! September 26th was Pete's 24th birthday!! I tried to make him breakfast the day before his birthday as a special treat because all of you who know me know I don't make breakfast haha, and of course I burned the eggs and only had enough batter for 1 torn up waffle and one baby waffle. Even though Pete really appreciated my efforts and refused to admit that my breakfast was a royal failure I was determined for him to have a tastey birthday breakfast.....

So off to McDonalds we went!!

When we got back home Pete opened his birthday presents

Pete had a little special moment with one of his favorite gifts...his drum mutes :)

He got them all set up right away! We had to get him some mutes for his drum set so that he could play them in our apartment without making our neighbors want to kill us in our sleep

We are all decked out to go to the BYU vs. Nevada football game

It was a very hot, and sad game :(

On Sunday, Pete's actual birthday, we went to his parents house for dinner and we ate the cake I made for him! That cake was so much fun to make! I put lots of Pete-ish things all over it like a Reeses package, a snowboard, a "Y", a St. Louis Cardinals logo, a guitar, and drum sticks :)

Pete and Tylin on his birthday

Pete and I's niece Addi was sitting at the dinner table and just started singing! It was SO cute :) Tylin (Our other niece) joined in too!

The next weekend was General Conference which was amazing as always. I think my favorite talk would have to have been President Uchtdorf's talk in the Saturday morning session about getting back to the things that are really important in life and how we need to not let our busy schedules get in the way of our four most important relationships; the relationships with our families, our God, our friends, and ourselves. It was just so uplifting. We actually got to go to the Conference center for the Sunday afternoon session!

The next weekend we went to lunch with Pete's family before the BYU vs. SDSU game and they gave me an early birthday present, a new scripture bag!! It is so cute and has plenty of room for everything! I love it! I used it at church the very next day :)

The game was so much fun!! The weather had cooled down and we actually redeemed ourselves and won!!

We went with Dan and Tia which was fun :)

That next Tuesday was MY birthday!! I am 22! It was one of the best birthdays I have ever had thanks to my awesome husband :) He threw me a surprise party!! I was so excited to see all of the friends that came, I just love them and we had such a great time!

Pete made me Texas Sheet Cake, my favorite, and did a really great job decorating it

Pete having fun with the balloons Kardin and Mariah brought me

One of my very favorite birthday gifts!! Pete and I used to have a Beta fish named Vern but he died :( So Mariah and Kardin go me a new fish! Meet Floyd :)

Another one of my favorite gifts...but I loved them all!

Basically my birthday was completely amazing and our lives continue to be crazy busy and really stressful at times but all around life is wonderful :)

Fun weekend!

We had such a great weekend! On Friday night we went to the temple with Sami and Ben. After the temple we went to get milkshakes and then went back to out house to play Wii!

Ben helped Sami with bowling :)

Wii can make you a little crazy!

Sami got a strike and did a victory dance

We were trying to make really intense "I am going to kick your butt at boxing" faces but we kept laughing too hard

The Ultimate Showdown: Ben Vs Sami

On Saturday night we made homemade pizza with Scott and Cindy. It was really good! And this is coming from someone who doesn't even like pizza that much!

Pete made the pizza dough

I helped flatten it out! I tried to do the spinning the pizza dough in the air thing, I can't say I was particularly successful :)

Pete and I's pizza before we got all the toppings on! My side is the one with hardly any sauce

Scott realy LOVES his pizza :)

Pete and I's pizza about to go in the oven

After we ate our pizza we went to Cascade golf center and played putt-putt! It was really fun!

Pete getting ready to start

Pete and I are the nursery leaders and one of our nursery kids, Abbi, loves to put on my shoes and ride the tricycle :)

The nursery kids LOVE Brother Kelly!

This weekend was so much fun, we got to spend time with some really good friends. Life is great!

Dear Art HIstory Department...

Dear Art History Department,

Are you aware that there are still only 24 hours in a day? Oh? You thought there were suddeny 48? Well, that definitely explains the completely insane amount of work that you are giving us to do in one night. Oh, and another thing you may have forgotten, sleeping and eating are still required for survival, I'm pretty sure you didn't schedule that in either.

Tiredly and yet still lovingly,

Kate

Weekend with Carson!

My little brother Carson came up from Salt Lake to spend the weekend at our apartemtnt! We had so much fun. On friday night I made homemade Macaroni & Cheese for the first time, it was really good but super filling. After the movie we went to the dollar theater and saw Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore! It was a really cute and funny movie.

On Saturday we went to Nickel City adn played tons of games. We won over 700 tickets and Carson was a ble to get an airsoft gun (which he proceded to shot everything with), invisible ink, and a few other fun things. I definitely had the most fun playing guitar hero!

We went to Red Robin for lunch and then went home to watch the BYU v. Airforce game, where we got crushed :(

Carson, Pete, and I definitely played a TON of Wii this weekend too! After church today we took him back to Salt Lake ate dinner at my dad's house. When we got home I made some apple cupcakes, with cinnimon cream filling, and brown sugar icing! I really love the whole baking thing, it's a bit of an obsession :)
